Coil Count: This refers to the number of springs in the mattress. Generally, a higher coil count means more individual points of support, allowing for better contouring and less motion transfer. However, coil count should be considered alongside coil gauge and design.
Coil Gauge: This measures the thickness of the steel wire. A lower gauge number means a thicker, firmer coil (e.g., 12-gauge). A higher gauge number means a thinner, softer coil (e.g., 18-gauge). Manufacturers often use a mix of gauges in different zones of the mattress.
